Personal Details

  • About Me I am the founder of FirearmsCommunity.com. I appreciate the freedoms afforded by the second amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I enjoy firearms for the purpose of self-defense and participation in the shooting sports.

Firearms Interest

  • My Primary Firearms Interest is: Self Defense
  • My Favorite Type of Shooting is: Competition, Steel Challenge, Practical Shooting, IDPA
  • My Favorite Firearm Type to Shoot is: Practical Rifle, Simi-Auto Pistol
  • My Favorite Firearm Movies The Way of the Gun. In this movie the shooters look like they are using real (verse movie) guns. Check out the last shoot-out, you will notice they reload often.
  • Firearm Organizations I Support NRA, Second Amendment Foundation, Gun Owners of Nevada
  • Clubs and Organizations I Belong to FrontSight (Gold Member), IDPA (MM in SSP & ESP division), USPSA, USCCA (United States Concealed Carry Association), ACLDN (Armed Citizen Legal Defense Network)
  • My Favorite Places to go Shooting Desert Sportman Rifle & Pistol Club, IDPA of Las Vegas, USPSA, Las Vegas Steel, FrontSight,
  • My Firearms Training I went camping with my brother (ex-military) and many of his friends (mostly Law-Inforcement) for many years. We would do all types of shooting with many different types of firearms. My offical firearms training started at Front Sight in May of 2003. Since that time I have taken many handgun, rifle, shotgun, and hand to hand courses at Front Sight. Now I am involved mostly in sport shooting: USPSA, IDPA, Steel, etc.
  • Where I First Learned to Shoot My Father bought me a pellet rifle when I was around 12 years old. I used to shoot cans and bottles in my back yard, and out in the desert. I then bought myself a Ruger 10/22 when I was 22, and lived in Reno. Used to go up in the mountains and shoot for fun.

I recently fired a friends XDm9  5.25 with the all black rear notch and the front fiber-optic sight. I really liked the handgun and the sights. Are these sights a good choice for shooting USPSA, or can you recommend more suitable sights?

in the topic Why do you shoot USPSA over IDPA? in the forum Competition Shooting
I currently shoot mostly IDPA (for self-defense training, etc.) however, I have a friend who trying to get me involved in USPSA. I have tried it once and am thinking I might become more involved in it.  I am wondering why those of you who shoot USPSA have chosen it rather than IDPA.
