  • Law Biding to Law Breaking in 180 miles

It really bothers me that a short road trip can turn me into a law breaker just for wanting to protect myself.

I live in Las Vegas Nevada where it is legal for me to carry a concealed firearm for my personal protection. My Mother and brother live in the city of 29 Palms, 180 miles away in California. The California state government has determined that when you cross this line in the desert (the California / Nevada border) the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution all of a sudden does not apply.

I move around my home town confident in my ability to defend myself if necessary from the threat of a violent attack. Then I travel to the town I grew up in to visit family, I no longer have that comfortable feeling, that assurance of personal safety that being armed and prepared provides.

Fortunately for me, my family lives in a small desert town with a population of less than 10,000, which is also home to a United States Marine Corps base. So I do feel relatively safe while visiting there. What if my family lived in Los Angeles, or some other large city with a high rate of crime and violence? Let's just say, I am glad they don't.

As for me, I seldom if ever travel into the heart of personal safety uncertainly, be it a large crime ridden city, or the bad side of the town I now live in.
