the why????
As a relatively new shooter(18 months ago i didnt even own a slingshot), i have gravitated to the competition side of handgun ownership!!!
and the reason for that is simple in my case-----
after a person demos and then purchases a carry gun----the only thing left to do in that arena is to become and then stay proficient with that carry gun---in other words go to the range and practice with your carry gun periodically!!!
but since i am the kind of person that likes to shoot what i own----and i own more than just my carry gun--- enter the competition side of handgun ownership!!!!
finding an appropriate competition for my talent level was frustrating at first---to say the least. i tried steel challenge because i could shoot steel with my browning buckmark 22lr pistol----little or no recoil and very inexpensive ammo usage----but it was hard for me to hear the "hits", even on steel targets, with "ears" on!!!
so i tried my glock at the next steel challenge match, only to find out that shooting a 9mm at relatively small steel targets was, for me---not very much fun!!!
small steel plates----pretty sizable distances---etc etc etc
so lets try something else-----enter IDPA matches-----now we were getting somewhere-----using my carry gun and holster---and having defensive situations at relatively SHORT distances-----even with 9mm----i was having some encouraging results----
so IDPA became my shooting discipline of choice----and i was shooting IDPA matches both indoors and outdoors---desert sportsmans outdoors and amer shooters on arville indoors!!!!
things were just great-----BUT I JUST HAD TO GIVE STEEL CHALLENGE ANOTHER TRY---figuring that since i had improved some since my last soiree at steel-----why not give it another try----THE RESULTS WERE BETTER BUT NOT THAT MUCH BETTER---and i was tired of missing those little steel targets with my XDm 9mm!!!!!!!!!
what was i to do????? just stop shooting steel would be one solution-----just stick to IDPA!!!!
but another option popped into my head----why not take my 4.5 inch 9mm XDm(i am using the 3.8 inch XDm for IDPA matches) and make it a race gun!!!!
you know---those flash gordon guns(im showing my age)----that cost a fortune----and whose users i refer to as "cheaters"------THOSE GUNS!!!!
and since i love my XDms and shoot well with both of them?????
ILL TRY ANYTHING TO KEEP FROM MISSING THOSE STEEL TARGETS!!!!!!
SO THAT IS WHY I AM BUILDING A RACE GUN AROUND MY 4.5 INCH---9MM----XDm!!!!!
and i am doing it on the CHEAP----OR AT LEAST TRYING TO!!!!
